“I'm guessing if you are out of subs the VCI becomes a doorstop”
Not so – MECH5’s new business model, “DAAS - Diagnostics As A Service”, does require online payment for full diagnostic use.
So, if after say a month’s initial use you are disappointed that some vehicles are not covered or even some functions are not included, users can stop paying us another penny and still use MECH5 on its FREEMIUM basis.
'Freemium' users will NOT be able to clear DTCs, read live data, use actuators or perform special functions unless you buy one month’s subscription. Every time you open Xlink you will be on the latest software version even if you are out of subscription. So it’s the first time ever that technicians can really see what a diagnostic tool can do at any given time, before they commit to pay for any more – it’s virtually ZERO RISK.
So what’s the point?
OK, so it’s not full access, but it means any technician can test MECH5 on any ECU on any car he wants to, at any time in the future and “see” for himself whether the new capabilities he wants have been added to the platform or not.
No need to look up on a coverage list or call your distributor to ask: “Does MECH5 cover this function, on that ECU, on this car?” – With the FREEMIUM model, you will actually be able to “see” every Live Data stream, every possible Actuator, every Special Function that MECH5 could access if you did wish to upgrade to a monthly paid subscription.
